Doug Swartz presents at Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation — Special Institute on Mining Agreements

Sheridan Ross Shareholder Doug Swartz is a featured speaker at the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation’s Special Institute on Mining Agreements held in Vancouver in late September.

Doug’s presentation entitled, “Who Will Own the Technology? Intellectual Property and Contracts” provides a comprehensive analysis of key technology practices and business strategies for mining companies operating across the globe. Topics include technology development, ownership and protection in host countries, clauses in supplier contracts, the importance of copyrights and derivative works, as well as suggested provisions for ownership and right to use intellectual property in jointly-owned companies and ventures. In addition, Doug’s discussion looks at the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property and the Patent Cooperation Treaty and the differences between first-to-invent and first-to-file countries.
