Sheridan Ross Adds Two Attorneys to Trademark Team

Sheridan Ross is pleased to announce the addition of Matt Williamson and Julie Shursky to its growing trademark practice. The team now includes nine attorneys, who counsel clients on all aspects of trademark protection, including the development of international brand protection strategies.

Matt Williamson’s practice includes partnering with clients early on in their brand creation process to help in the selection, clearance, use, and prosecution of trademarks. In this role, he excels at helping clients identify ways to optimize the value of their brands, including through the strategic acquisition of marks. Matt also has experience handling enforcement of marks, including oppositions with the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board as well as online and domain name enforcement.

Before joining Sheridan Ross, Matt worked with a boutique intellectual property law firm, where he handled a breadth of trademark portfolios along with federal litigation preparation. Matt is a former judicial intern of Colorado Supreme Court Justice Brian Boatright and First Judicial District of Colorado Judge Diego Hunt. Before pursuing the law, Matt worked with a commercial advertising agency, where he gained a depth of experience helping clients manage and optimize their online presences. Matt earned his undergraduate degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from the University of Colorado and his law degree from the University of Denver Strum College of Law, where he served as staff editor for both the Sports and Entertainment Law Journal and the Transportation Law Journal.

Julie Shursky’s practice focuses on assisting clients throughout the full life cycle of trademark protection, including clearance and prosecution of marks. Her work includes developing international protection strategies for clients with global reach, and she excels at aligning portfolio development with her clients’ goals. Julie also has extensive experience assisting clients through adversarial proceedings, including handling ex parte matters with the Trademark Trial and Appeals Board and appeals with the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals.

Julie joins Sheridan Ross from Virginia, where she worked as a trademark attorney with a private practice. While in law school, she worked as a student attorney and law clerk with private practices and gained experience as a legal intern with the Federal Communications Commission. Julie also served as a judicial intern for Judge Kathleen O’Malley, who serves on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Julie earned her bachelor’s degree from George Washington University and her law degree from American University Washington College of Law.
